Recently our fine woodworking division NEWwoodworks was involved in the renovation of a timber frame home that New Energy Works raised 20+ years ago in New York State. The project reunited our team with Brad Hall of Element Design Build, our former long-time construction manager, whose team was heading up the homes redesign and renovation.
We caught up with Rob D’Alessandro who manages our woodworking division to talk about the unique modern look the woodworking took on during the remodel of the home.
Q: How was this renovation project unique for the NEWwoodworks team?
A: This is a fairly unique project in terms of the way the design team on the renovation included some very specific elements that the homeowner had used in the past on other properties they own, incorporating that style into home. The result is a very modern look that our NEWwoodworks team had a lot of fun with.
Q: How was the look of the woodwork in this home different from other projects your team has worked on recently?
A: The aesthetic of this home is a little more upscale and modern looking than the work we typically do, which tends to be more rustic and relaxed, and featured some nice brass finishes and detailing. There are some paint-grade cabinets and special built-in features, there is a little bit of oak cabinetry and furniture, as well as stairs and railings, a great mix of materials to achieve a look that flows together well.
Q: What was it like working with Brad and his team at Element Design Build?
A: I loved working with Brad Hall and his team at Element. After so many years working together at New Energy Works being able to re-connect with him on this project was fantastic. He really put a lot of trust in us, our work, and our experience on this project. There was a lot of back and forth with the team to get the details right. Very smooth communication and collaboration throughout the process, and the final results reflect that.
Q: Why is this project important to you and your team?
A: The importance of this project is that it shows the versatility our team can offer to a designer or architect. We really like it when projects like this come along that let us play around with different styles and looks. I think it is always interesting to work on something that is unique and different, it stretches you and you learn from it. It can be challenging, but that is what makes it fun.
