A bit of the technical: Though comparatively small in size, timber frame braces have huge significance. The brace is part of a three-bar linkage, connecting the post and the beam and giving stability to the structure. The primary function is lateral stability though it also transfers beam load to the post. A brace works primarily in compression, hence the need for pairs. If we consider wind loads on any structure, we can imagine how the brace comes into effect as the wind causes compression and pressure shifts. Questions? Write us here.
