Our design group’s goal for this Buffalo, NY home was to create a house that belongs to its site and provides a sense of groundedness that, on an aesthetic and psychological level, are vital to creating a “home”. The style and materials used in the design were inspired largely by the site. Simple gabled rooflines and agricultural materials like galvanized metal roofing and reclaimed red barn board, reference this structure's rural setting. Natural stone flows from the house and chimney to the retaining wall which, along with a walkout, connects the house with the pond.
