Acadia National Park Gateway Center
A stately entryway to Acadia National Park, this 11,000 square-foot legacy building is the central hub for national park travelers from all areas and walks of life. This heavy timber project was funded by private and public support and features 460 individual timbers and 85,000 board feet of material. Using traditional joinery, steel, large trusses, and a few custom-made eyebrow curve glulams, the up to 42' long timbers span the gateway building with a structure that equals the uniqueness of the park’s surroundings.
“[The Gateway Center] is one of the highlights of my 40-year career, for sure, because it’s been so long in the making. It’s a complicated mix of partnerships, funding sources, efforts, and miscellaneous things that had to be done to get it built.”
John Kelly, Management Assistant Acadia National Park
