Overlooking one of the Finger Lakes, construction of this timber frame home considers the landscape by respecting the site’s slope and carefully maintaining existing dogwood trees. The southern exposure is managed with an eyebrow dormer and carefully placed vertical windows to minimize solar heat gain and light glare from the lake.

Even as a bare frame, the main hallway in Dan & Beth's home takes shape. Stretching high above is a clerestory intended as a nod to old maple sap houses and to feed light to the inner space.

With the help of a crane, Ty, Paul, and Scott guide this great room timber into place. After three more beams like this were raised into place and secured with come-alongs, the last pre-assembled bent went up securing the east end of the home.

Unlike typical timber frame homes, this timber frame barn will take us two weeks to raise and then enclose. It'll be 66 feet long and includes 961 pieces of timber. The space will house an auto shop on the first floor, storage space on the second, and an office complete with kitchen and bath on the third floor. Of course, it'll also be the backdrop for many a barn party, too.

This built in banquette is both an elegant and comfortable backdrop to this home's dining area. Our Interiors group designed and NEWwoodworks custom-crafted the cabinetry using antique Jarrah, reclaimed from old woolen mills in Australia. It's topped with a gently curved piece of soapstone.

At night, a home takes on a different character, revealing interesting angles and deeper shadows. Photographer Rob Stanton works late into the evening to capture the warm glow of this Catskill timber frame.

When timber frames aren’t raised by hand, the crane truck becomes invaluable. Peeking under the arm of the crane truck this frame raised near Skaneateles Lake in the Finger Lakes region comes together.

Mark used to belong to the life-of-the-law, but this former lawyer decided to really get his hands dirty with us as a woodworker. Always positive and polite with some amazing wood detailing skills, may we say we're happy he found us!

This past weekend a timber frame was raised for this home in Mendon, New York. The design and detailing of this house is intended to respect its agricultural context as well as allude to the sap house and sugar shack vernacular often found in the northeast.

Cherry sleeper planks salvaged from an old barn find new life as Tina & Harold's dining table, while other reclaimed cherry planks were repurposed into the built in buffet by NEWwoodworks.

Progress continues on our Vermont Street project in Portland, Oregon. The lower level of this home will feature cedar doors, reclaimed from pickle vats complete with ferrous staining from the original steel strapping.

The Westchester Mall is home to My Suit, a men’s suit store that features custom pillars in the entrance. The pillars are D-select, vertical grain Douglas fir, wire brushed with a custom stain by Pioneer Millworks.

Timber framing is a versatile medium that can blend with existing structures. We built this timber frame addition on the back of this colonial home in upstate New York for the Reniff-Fairchild family.
