New Energy Works Timberframers
Timber frame homes, post & beam homes, trusses, timbers, custom design/build timberframers using recyled and sustainable wood. Come to one of our open houses or raisings to see what we are all about.
Many times bathroom vanities should look lighter than the full drawered style we are often used to. In this example, a furniture look adds craft and special flexibility.
Made by NEWwoodworks for the Vermont Street Project, this door and sidelight are made of river-recovered cypress with a light stain. The stained glass panels were crafted by an artist friend as a wedding present.
On a recent trip to Ithaca, New York Jennifer stopped in at the Home Green Home showroom, a Pioneer Millworks dealer. She reports that the Pioneer flooring display towers stood like sculpture, and the store a refreshing alternative to big box retailers. The back wall is one part designer creativity, one part carpenter talent, and one part reclaimed wood character.
This home for Loy, Darrin and Alex overlooks the Missouri river in Great Falls, Montana. Darrin led the building effort, and always managed a smile and a laugh. Ty and Jonathan were the design team, and it served as the original inspiration for the Vermont Street Project.
High in the Catskills this frame of Industrial Salvage Douglas fir has angled wings to provide views of the surrounding mountain hills for every member of the large family it will house.
The studio over the detached garage starts to rise up as the siding on the main house nears completion at the Vermont Street Project.
Come see this great room and the rest of this custom home in Mendon, New York at our 2009 Fall Open House Tour to benefit the Mendon Foundation, September 13th from noon - 4pm. Tickets available in advance, at the door, or at the Mendon Station Festival. Scissor trusses with metal strapping; comfortable seating; large windows on three sides allowing natural light and views of the surrounding fields/forests - just one piece of this home to enjoy.
Last year, we partnered with Rotary International and the Victor-Farmington Rotary to launch the Nicaraguan Solar Oven Project. Yacarely Mairena (recent graduate of the University of Managua) is the Project Coordinator, working in the El Sauce region. On her visit to the US last week, she made a stop at Karen’s house. Yacarely's request: ride the tractor!
New Energy Works Timberframers partnered with Grater Architects of Rochester, NY to give this lake home a facelift by way of a timber frame addition and covered parking area. Glowing hammer beam trusses and large open porches seamlessly connect the interior with exterior spaces.
The Asian inspired design of this timber frame sets the tone in this master bedroom. Once completed, large windows with custom-crafted Shoji screens from NEWwoodworks will drape three of the walls, offering privacy and a tranquil connection to the open meadow surrounding the home.
Karen Parkhurst, longtime employee, finance guru, and mama bear to all of our employees, poses here with her "other" family. Sister Pam, Daughters Doris and Donna, Son Robert, Son-in-law Scott, and too many grandkids to name! A fine family Karen!
We have designed a rainwater harvesting system at the Vermont Street Project that will capture over 20,000 gallons each year into 4 1000 gallon cisterns, covering approximately 68% of the family's water needs.
Finding a work space while entertaining guests is easy in this New Energy Works designed and crafted kitchen featuring reclaimed sapwood beech cabinets and a reclaimed jarrah chopping block.
Tools of the trade sit idle while Mike takes a break from installing his reclaimed Settlers’ Plank Autumn Woods flooring from Pioneer Millworks. Once the final touches and tung oil have been applied, we'll visit again and snap a few shots.
A new coffee shop in Seattle pays homage to the local vibe (the same that made Seattle the coffee shop capital), using reclaimed barn wood from Pioneer Millworks for the storefront, the interior casework, walls, chalkboard frames, and more. The store front includes a pooch of the month, community watering dish, and hitches for faithful companions of coffee lovers.
Just steps from their bedroom, Tina and Harold can gaze at the stars from their open deck, or enjoy cool lake breezes on hot summer nights from their screened porch. And since these structures were made using reclaimed redwood from wine vats, the faint aroma of grapes can also be savored.
It's easy to add interest and balance to an existing home with exterior timber frame components such as this sitting porch. A stain was applied to these Douglas fir timbers to bring out the grain patterns and to create continuity with existing siding and roofing.
Robin Muto, owner of Positive Environments, a residential and commercial interior design firm in Rochester, New York, recently toured our fine woodworking division, NEWwoodworks. Robin is our kind of people. Her designs are inspired, and her passion for responsible choices is real. We're looking forward to bringing her visions to life in the form of custom furniture and cabinetry.

If you find yourself in Portland over the next few weeks, come see the pros at Traditional Natural Plasters apply American Clay's Loma, Enjarre, and Marittimo products from ecohaus on the interior surfaces of the The Vermont Street Project. Not only is this the first Enjarre application we know of in Oregon, it may well be the first FULL HOUSE American Clay application, meaning no paint used on any interior surfaces, in Oregon. Dates are tentatively set for August 14 and 17, with prep work a few days ahead. For details: events@newenergyworks.com
The eyebrow dormer and segmented vertical windows bring views, light and character to this timber frame home while minimizing solar heat gain and reflective light from the lake.
Doesn't the expression on this 5-year old's face make you want to be a kid again? In addition to canon balls, his areas of expertise include playing the drums, riding his bike, fishing, camping, and learning about trains from his dad, our reclaimed wood expert, Jered.
Douglas fir curved bottom chord and braces combine with stone masonry, flowers and the American flag to welcome friends and family to this timber frame home we built in 2002.
Silhouetted against the evening sky, the curves of this frame mimic the shape of the setting sun.
Dave, our moulder expert, takes kiln dried molder blanks made from various reclaimed timbers one step closer to flooring by adding the tongue/groove. At home he and his wife are always busy “molding” their three young sons. Only after the kids are in bed, does he relax by playing his bass guitar.
The Geneva Country Club envisions another landmark building along its prestigious Seneca Lake waterfront. New Energy Works is assisting the club with a 30-unit condominium that is proposed to compliment structures such as Belhurst Castle and Geneva-on-the-Lake”
In this kitchen make-over, reclaimed Douglas fir posts and ceiling beams add character and warmth while the contrasting painted bead board brightens the space.
Sinker cypress is so named because it's reclaimed from the bottom of logging rivers. It's valued for its history and because it is extremely dense, durable, and beautiful -- a great combination for a front door. The dark stain applied before installation highlights the clean lines of the grain.
Adam of our west coast shop runs the Woodmizer for the first cut of a Douglas fir log. Once cut and sanded on four sides, this piece will be hand finished with mortise/tenons, chamfering or radius cuts, peg holes, and tung oil.

Hello, and thanks for visiting.
For over twenty years,
New Energy Works has been one of the nation's preeminent
timber frame home builders. We offer a range of services
including timberframe design, fine woodworking, timber
frame enclosure services utilizing SIP's and of course,
some of the most elegant and lyrical timber frames in
the industry.
Weve had the
privilege of working with some great clients. Some have
been struggling young couples who want a modest home
in the Finger Lakes region of New York others
have been high-end architects and builders creating
magnificent lodges high in the mountains of Colorado — others still are interested in building in Portland, Oregon, one of the greenest states in the US.
Their common denominator is the love of fine wood, elegant
design, sustainable design and old-world craftsmanship.
We hope that you'll
explore our website and revisit it regularly. In the
years that we've been online, we've found this site
to be an invaluable design resource, one that has evolved
and improved through input from people like you. We
always appreciate your comments - keep in touch.
