When you arrive at TJ and Belinda’s home, this large timber frame porch is the first thing to greet you. The porch is made of a mixture of Douglas Fir and Western Red Cedar as is the rest of this timber frame home.

This frame featuring curved bottom chords and struts begins to take shape along side its neighboring hardwoods, residents now for several generations. Our timber framers captured this shot while the frame and crane sat idle during a break.

While in Las Vegas don't miss Pioneer Millworks Settlers' Plank reclaimed oak flooring in the Lion King store. On a break from the Hospitality and Design Expo last week, Julie was able to snap some images of this newly installed floor.

Mother Nature gave us perfect weather for the first day of the Faywood Farm raising. Mike and Will work to tighten down the joints before the first bent is raised.

Porches make wonderful outdoor spaces, even better. In this example, the king truss and post clusters on this porch frame the surrounding hills for an unforgettable vista every time the Hall family opens their front door.

At first glance this looks like an ordinary garage sale, but it's really the beginnings of a barn party. Jon & Bee feted the completion of their new three-bay garage made from reclaimed timbers and siding from a barn built many generations ago. May it hold parties and tools and cars for another 200 years.

Our timber framers are on the road to Independence Kentucky to raise the Faywood Farms timber frame. It's a project we're particularly excited about, partially because its soon-to-be-timber-frame-home-owner is just as excited as we are. We'll raise a frame in any weather, still we're all hoping for a sunny, perfect day.

The beauty of the natural red tones and extreme durability of reclaimed Jarrah appealed to Doug and Melanie who now enjoy it daily in their custom built bathroom, designed by our interiors department and built by NEWwoodworks.

Jonathan stands with a grateful arm around Nick Harville, of SEDCOR, who has been professional and very helpful in starting up our Oregon timber framing group. He also showed up with plenty of good Rogue beer!

Last year Joel and Chris purchased one of our timber frame homes overlooking Canandaigua Lake. When they decided they needed more elbow room they asked us to do a small addition with a large deck. Here a single bent and roof system of Douglas fir will provide space and maintain the lake view.

A strong curve creates open space and visual interest in Doug and Melanie’s home, but another story lies behind the reclaimed heart pine timbers of their game room. Check out historical bits to learn more.

Today, Jake River’s 8th Birthday – definitely “overgood”! Jake’s giving us the thumbs over for “overgood”. You know, bad is thumbs down, medium is thumb horizontal pointed in board, good is thumbs up, of course. Overgood is the stretch, further rotating past straight up to outboard horizontal. It takes some effort, a bit of stretch and is like overdrive, going all out. You can follow more of Jake's life at www.vermontstreetproject.com.

On a sunny day Marc, Mike and Paul poured a cement ramp for easier entrance into our new shop addition. We’re willing to bet they would rather not have to wear those boots on such a hot day!

When Pizza Fusion, a national restaurant with eco-ideals parallel to our own, approached Pioneer Millworks regarding reclaimed table tops, we jumped at the opportunity. Pioneer Millworks supplied the reclaimed heart pine while our fine woodworking division, NEWwoodworks, designed and crafted the tables seen here. Now, if only we could get a slice of that organic pizza…

After last week's Timber Frame Business Council event in South Carolina, Jonathan rode bikes with Tedd and Christine Benson, of Bensonwood Homes, and Jeff Arvin, of the Cascade Joinery, to raise money for the local Meals on Wheels group. They deliver 1500 meals in Greenville County every day, to people who may or may not get a four square, and even more likely won't get a visitor. Our combined 240 miles didn't seem so far after all.

Join us for the The Vermont Street Project raising tomorrow. It's our first frame in Portland and we think it will be the first LEED H Platinum timber frame home in Oregon. If you're in the area, stop by anytime between 9am and 3pm. A timber frame raising makes for an exciting day, especially when paired with local food and drink.

Welcome to New Energy Works

Hello, and thanks for visiting.

For over twenty years, New Energy Works has been one of the nation's preeminent timber frame home builders. We offer a range of services including timberframe design, fine woodworking, timber frame enclosure services utilizing SIP's and of course, some of the most elegant and lyrical timber frames in the industry.

We’ve had the privilege of working with some great clients. Some have been struggling young couples who want a modest home in the Finger Lakes region of New York – others have been high-end architects and builders creating magnificent lodges high in the mountains of Colorado — others still are interested in building in Portland, Oregon, one of the greenest states in the US. Their common denominator is the love of fine wood, elegant design, sustainable design and old-world craftsmanship.

We hope that you'll explore our website and revisit it regularly. In the years that we've been online, we've found this site to be an invaluable design resource, one that has evolved and improved through input from people like you. We always appreciate your comments - keep in touch.
