Will Dunton has always had a love of furniture and has refinished a good number of pieces on his own (cherry is his preferred medium). His love of wood led him to us. When he’s not working on timbers and frames, you can find him on his snowboard shredding or kickin' it on the soccer field.
Material, colors and fixture selections come together for a recent design project to be raised this summer.
Our office remodel is swiftly coming to completion. Everything will do double duty, showcasing custom pieces by NEWwoodworks including cabinetry, shelving, desks (in a mixture of reclaimed woods), and serving as functional office work spaces. The wood flooring is a reclaimed mixture salvaged from shipping crates and, like the desks, comes with a variety of hues and textures.
The Perkins have a deep respect for the agrarian community to which they have moved. When it came time to building their garage they identified an old barn that is purported to have once been owned by distant relatives of theirs. We deconstructed the old barn frame, brought it to our shop for repairs, then rebuilt the new barn on site. The reclaimed barn siding and custom barn doors give it an aged, traditional look.
Ty and Jake fight for the lead at the 2008 Wild Water Derby. Join us this year as we sponsor the Battle for the Paddle! Wild Water Derby this weekend in Shortsville NY. Recognized by the ACA, the day is sure to be an exciting mixture of canoe, home-made raft and kayak races. For those who don’t want to be in the water, the next best thing is watching the crazy rafts shoot over the rapids. Plus, there will be plenty of food and craft vendors to visit if the excitement gets to be too much. Best of luck to our participants!
Reclaimed heart pine shows character and deep patina in this king post truss and radial hip rafters. This roof system will create an inviting airy space for all family gatherings.
Pioneer Millworks was honored on April 16 with an Environmental Leadership Award in the category of Recycling/Reuse for their recently introduced engineered flooring line. New Energy Works was honored in 2008 for its commitment to green building. The awards are painted by African elephants from the Seneca Park Zoo, in Rochester, New York.
WhenDoug Brown of CDB productions approached our sister company Pioneer Millworks for wood flooring to go into a green home for a green home show to air on PBS, we couldn't refuse the spot light. Perhaps we're a little star struck, but we think our antique heart pine floor will steal the show. Check out this little clip Doug did for us, about us.
Keith Holcomb, with New Energy Works for 17 years, skis Mt. Hood, Oregon with Jonathan and Jake River last Saturday. He had been out all week helping organize and manage the Vermont Street Project.
While we’re used to seeing timber being unloaded in our yard, this was a special delivery. These Eastern White Pine logs will become the frame for Beth and Dan's home. We’re excited to be partnering with Woodwise Land Company – founded in part by Dan himself, they practice sustainable forestry and follow ideals concurrent with our own.
This natural stone patio is framed with as found timbers and faces the open landscape. Easily accessed from the kitchen and screened porch it provides a fresh air gathering space with great views for Dave, Kate and kids. Labels: as-found timbers, screened timber frame porch
Ty Allen, LEED AP and architectural designer, pitches in at this community raising, helping to build his own design. After graduating from Cornell, he specialized in ecclesiastical architecture at a Rochester firm before making himself at home in the loft next to our timber frame engineers. With two growing boys, he & wife Kellie are adjusting to the constant demands and fun of parenthood. Dedicated to the NY Giants, his love for cycling & his busy social schedule with his family [who also happen to be his neighbors] he’s always on the move.
Not everyone can have their slopeside seasonal ski home – so for an Ellicottville, NY client, our planners came up with a minimum footprint cottage neighborhood that has little compromise on design and is big on front porches.
For the first time in 53 years, Easter falls on Jonathan's birthday. It's also a year of other firsts: building his own home after 25 years of designing and building homes for others; establishing roots and friendships in Oregon; and having more time to play with Jake, dance with Sierra, and enjoy Maxine. Happy Birthday JO.
Our northeast sales representative, Mike Beganyi, imported this cargo bike, Bakfiets (Dutch for box bike) and totes his daughter Ava around town. Mike says the removable bench can handle two kids and he can carry 200 lbs. in the cargo box, plus 75 lbs. on the rear rack in addition to himself. To date they’ve covered over 200 miles. Very eco-friendly and fun, too!
Originally raised in the summer of 2004, this completed home off Canandaigua Lake recently changed hands. New owners, Chris and Joel, have come to us for ideas on an addition that is sure to meet their family lifestyle.
This charming boat house cottage offers its residents spectacular views of Canandaigua Lake and its rich fall foliage. This particular design could also be imaged on the side of ski slope, at the edge of a trout river, or on a rocky coast in Maine.
Iain, manager of our McMinnville, Oregon timber frame workshop, demonstrates that not all timber cuts can be accomplished with our CNC joinery machine. Sometimes it takes human know-how and sweat. This Douglas fir timber is for our friends and neighbors at Forest Grove Lumber.
Timber framing, at least from our perspective, is part high-craft, part technical sophistication. It's the meshing together of right brain and left brain talent to fulfill creative vision and necessity. This 3D model is the result of design, and engineering. The final space will come to life with the aid of our construction division and master craftsmen.
While this photo is magazine perfect, it lacks the real story. To do this NEWwoodworks designed and crafted kitchen justice, you have to imagine it bustling with friends and family of Tina and Harold, both fun-loving and warm.
Ehmet and Krista of Robert Ehmet Hayes Architecture joined us from Kentucky for a taste of local eats and libations and to review the plans for Faywood Farms, a whole house timber frame to be raised in May. Or was it the other way around?
Brian & Silke Ernisse chose barn siding for their home on Lake Ontario. This antique wood lived its first hundred or so years protecting an old barn, it'll spend the next protecting this family's home from the torrents of this Great Lake.
Traditional thinking would have you believe a timber frame has to be square. In fact, our timber frame designers find it to be a medium with infinite possibilities. This hexagonal roof, for example, will give the room an open, organic feel.
Though "semi" retired from our design staff, John Adamski is still designing with us, when he isn't working on his heart's vision of creating a Finger Lakes Heritage Museum, an outdoor radio show called Hunt Fish NY, or his own work as a wildlife photographer. Retired? Not.

Hello, and thanks for visiting.
For over twenty years,
New Energy Works has been one of the nation's preeminent
timber frame home builders. We offer a range of services
including timberframe design, fine woodworking, timber
frame enclosure services utilizing SIP's and of course,
some of the most elegant and lyrical timber frames in
the industry.
Weve had the
privilege of working with some great clients. Some have
been struggling young couples who want a modest home
in the Finger Lakes region of New York others
have been high-end architects and builders creating
magnificent lodges high in the mountains of Colorado — others still are interested in building in Portland, Oregon, one of the greenest states in the US.
Their common denominator is the love of fine wood, elegant
design, sustainable design and old-world craftsmanship.
We hope that you'll
explore our website and revisit it regularly. In the
years that we've been online, we've found this site
to be an invaluable design resource, one that has evolved
and improved through input from people like you. We
always appreciate your comments - keep in touch.
