New Energy Works Timberframers
Timber frame homes, post & beam homes, trusses, timbers, custom design/build timberframers using recyled and sustainable wood. Come to one of our open houses or raisings to see what we are all about.
Our designers begin exploring scale, proportion, balance and materials in early elevation sketches. These first thoughts are refined, eventually becoming the face of a new home.

Exposed under the loft edge, floor joists and tongue and groove of Douglas fir lead down a hallway of reclaimed heart pine flooring with large energy efficient windows to a curving staircase of reclaimed jarrah.
Steve Shaw (www.shawvineyards.com) has been having us build his vineyard for the last few years, part by part. This perfectionism shows in his wines, and all that he does.
Doug Schrank poses proudly beside he and his wife Melanie’s newly completed timber frame home in the Catskill Mountains. The high-efficiency large windows will let them enjoy the lake views from the comfort of their great room, no matter what the weather brings.
There is nothing quite like a naked truss against a clear sky. The maze of straps and winches are used to help snuggly fit mortise and tenon together and hold them in place until the pegs are driven.

Terry Sentz (far right) from Sunnyside Timber Frames and crew pose outside the AFC Championship Pittsburgh Steelers/Ravens game. Of course, these PA guys are loyal Steelers fans. We’ve been working with Terry for many years and have found our relationship to be both mutually beneficial, but more importantly, very rewarding.
Peeled posts and live-edge siding frame this reclaimed jarrah door with curved transom and sidelight windows.
We partnered with SWBR Architects on this Asian-inspired tea house for Monroe Community Hospital's Alzheimer's disease residents. This donor funded project will give patients and their families an aesthetic, tranquil shelter to enjoy. Labels: swbr architects
There's nothing like hiring an ex-Marine to oversee the construction of our clients' homes; each one bears his unmistakable stamp of quality. When you spend your days worrying about interiors and exteriors, it only makes sense that Tad, wife Katie, and their three kids spend their time together enjoying the great outdoors. About 5 years ago, we brought 14 containers of antique Jarrah reclaimed from old Australian Woolen Mills to upstate NY. Since then we've turned it into flooring, counters, furniture, doors, stairs, and cabinets. NEWwoodworks designed and built this kitchen using this richly hued antique wood. It is around 7 years ago.
Dr. and Mrs. Chung pose in the loft of their timber frame home. The Chinese inscription below them reads: “moon rising over old tree”.
The first winter for Doug and Melanie’s new home came complete with snow and cold temperatures. Nestled along a lake shore this home uses a mixture of exterior pieces including stone, natural siding and reclaimed barn board siding.
The crane hoists this queen post bent with curved bottom chord of reclaimed industrial salvage Douglas fir (one of several bents for the great room) up and into place at a recent raising.
With quick wit and a keen sense of humor, Cal has a story for everything. Here he's changing the story of old timbers, separating each newly cut board by grade in preparation for a trip to the moulder. Cal recently moved into a new hilltop home with wild views of sunsets and where more of his epics are sure to be wrought.
Featuring reclaimed Jarrah risers and Heart Pine treads, this spiral stair by NEWwoodworks becomes a sculptural element within this lake home. The treads of the stair transition from the rustic heart pine floor of the great room to the more refined heart pine floor of the loft.
Featuring Autumn Woods (varying species of hardwoods including beech and maple) with live edge treads, this staircase by NEWwoodworks also includes a few framing members salvaged from the original farmhouse.
Reclaimed hemlock barn siding of varying widths from a barn in Elbridge, NY found its way across the state to begin a second life on this garage in Geneseo, New York.

Hello, and thanks for visiting.
For over twenty years,
New Energy Works has been one of the nation's preeminent
timber frame home builders. We offer a range of services
including timberframe design, fine woodworking, timber
frame enclosure services utilizing SIP's and of course,
some of the most elegant and lyrical timber frames in
the industry.
Weve had the
privilege of working with some great clients. Some have
been struggling young couples who want a modest home
in the Finger Lakes region of New York others
have been high-end architects and builders creating
magnificent lodges high in the mountains of Colorado — others still are interested in building in Portland, Oregon, one of the greenest states in the US.
Their common denominator is the love of fine wood, elegant
design, sustainable design and old-world craftsmanship.
We hope that you'll
explore our website and revisit it regularly. In the
years that we've been online, we've found this site
to be an invaluable design resource, one that has evolved
and improved through input from people like you. We
always appreciate your comments - keep in touch.
