Although our projects change throughout the design process, most begin as a sketch that represents a conceptual idea of the home. This sketch explores the overall aesthetic and massing of the house, as well as initial thought about daylight and sun exposure.

This is wood reclamation at its best for the Perkins barn! An 1800's barn built of hand hewn timbers (interestingly owned by a family that shares the Perkins name) was carefully deconstructed, piece by piece. Reconstruction took place in our shop with only a few braces and posts being replaced by other salvaged pieces. The cleaned frame will be re-raised today and tomorrow next to Jon and Bee's timber frame home.

Welcome to New Energy Works

Hello, and thanks for visiting.

For over twenty years, New Energy Works has been one of the nation's preeminent timber frame home builders. We offer a range of services including timberframe design, fine woodworking, timber frame enclosure services utilizing SIP's and of course, some of the most elegant and lyrical timber frames in the industry.

We’ve had the privilege of working with some great clients. Some have been struggling young couples who want a modest home in the Finger Lakes region of New York – others have been high-end architects and builders creating magnificent lodges high in the mountains of Colorado — others still are interested in building in Portland, Oregon, one of the greenest states in the US. Their common denominator is the love of fine wood, elegant design, sustainable design and old-world craftsmanship.

We hope that you'll explore our website and revisit it regularly. In the years that we've been online, we've found this site to be an invaluable design resource, one that has evolved and improved through input from people like you. We always appreciate your comments - keep in touch.
