After building a lake cottage for his
brother, we were delighted when John Williams approached
us with the idea of rescuing this 1820's colonial farmhouse.
While historic, the building lacked the
potential to include the type of modern attributes that
the client needed and was in a structurally marginal
condition. In order to add functionality, we married
a modern timber frame to the old one using recycled
timbers. The original frame was stripped of is roof,
siding and interior, catalogued and marked, dismantled,
power washed, repaired and rehabilitated and then reraised
on a modern foundation. The whole structure was then
enclosed and brought to completion as we would any other
timber frame.
