Events + Raisings

Raisings usually draw a crowd and offer a chance to witness the culmination of months of painstaking effort. Because of the significance of the event to the client, wherever possible we’ll accommodate requests for raisings on specific dates. We were honored when Nan and Bill Horton chose us to build a replacement for their home that burned down and celebrated with them at their 4th of July raising and hog roast. As soon as the last peg was driven in John Haines’ timber frame barn, his son’s wedding party streamed in, the band struck up and the dancing began.

April 2008	Dixon Residence Great Falls, Montana Designed by New Energy Works, this Douglas fir frame includes tower, trestles, and a balance of cozy spaces and open views.
April 2008	Sovich Residence Chesapeake Bay, Virginia Sweeping views of water and an open floor plan for Jerry and Kim Sovich, who are moving from Texas to Virginia.
April 2008	Hall Residence Owego, New York Featuring bowstring trusses and log posts, this will be the eighth home that John Hall has built for himself and his bride.
April/May 2008	Veth Residence by Design Works Architecture New Jersey Shore Half octagonal great room with 4 hips converging on one truss. Recycled Southern yellow pine. Tongue and groove ceiling.

June 8th	Slocum Open House Aurora, NY George and Priscilla Slocum have graciously invited our friends to tour their home nestled on the east side of Cayuga Lake. Highlights of the tour will include a four story lighthouse, a whole-house timber frame in reclaimed antique heart pine, a Rumford fireplace built with reclaimed barn foundation stones (some as long as 8 ft) and curved truss chords that will surely drop your jaw. The Fitzgerald home in downtown Aurora (just minutes away from the Slocum house) has been added to the open house schedule as well.
June 28th-29th	Bristol Mountain Ski Patrol Lodge Raising Bristol, NY We’ve teamed up with the ski patrol at Bristol Mountain for their new mountain top building. This community is 100 volunteers strong so we expect to have plenty of patrol power to raise the timber frame, enclose it in stressed skin, add windows, and install the roof. While 2,200 feet doesn’t beat our elevation record, we’ll enjoy knowing a NEW timber frame marks Bristol’s highest point.
June 2008	Walters Residence North Carolina This frame contains a curved bottom parallel chord truss, and a curved handrail for the balcony. Design and frame created by New Energy Works. The frame is a combination of reclaimed heart pine and cypress timbers recovered from the bottom of a river.

Summer 2008	Hallmark-Pigeon Ontario, Canada Queen Post truss System
Summer 2008	O'Glesian Farms Nashua, New Hampshire This barn project is for a gathering space and classrooms for Second Nature Academy. The building is a LEED project and the timber frame and the structural floor deck will be made from FSC Douglas Fir. The timber frame includes clear span king post bents on the main floor for open gathering space and a timbered lower level for classrooms and a kitchenette.
Summer 2008	Brush Construction Residence New Jersey Working again with Brush Construction, we have incorporated this hexagonal timber frame into the homeowners existing plans.
Mid-Summer 2008	Van Delden Residence Interlaken, NY This powerful central public area timber frame will set off a new home for Jay and Diane Van Delden.
April/August 2008	SBE Amenia, NY These exterior components for a private residence in Amenia, NY, represent the largest project of its kind for New Energy Works. Working in conjuntion with Destefano Associates.
