The Chung Family

Lake Moon Shines Over Old Trees.
This letter appeared in our InSide News to New Energy Works employees in November 2004.

We have completed the Chung’s home in Crystal Beach on the east side of Canandaigua Lake. The house has turned out beautifully. Accolades to Steve Trautman (to whom I’m indebted for at least a dozen cups of coffee) for an excellent job of site supervision and management on a day-to-day basis. Many thanks to the rest of our construction crew as well- particularly Sean, Mark, Jeff and Eric (forgive me if I omitted anyone) for the work they did to create this great home. Thanks too to Tad for input on fleshing out various details. Of course, the home would not have been realized if not for our other divisions as well. The timber frame is spectacular; the design and layout works wonderfully (and may have sold another job); the cabinetry and railings complement the home superbly; and PMW did a great job milling the oak flooring. One thing that’s particularly special about this home’s flooring is that we took down roughly a dozen oak trees on the site prior to construction, and those oak trees were brought back to our shop to be milled & dried to create about ½ of the wood flooring. How cool is that?

For those who don’t know, Dr. & Mrs. Chung traveled from Korea in March to meet with us to finalize the design details of the home. Dr. Chung had a practice in the Rochester area from the late 1960s to the mid 90s; he and his wife then moved back to Korea but are now returning to retire in this home. Their son Jim and his wife Esther, who live in New York City, built the house for them on the lot the family has owned for about 15 years. Mrs. Chung stayed in Canandaigua while Dr. Chung returned to Korea for work obligations, and Mrs. Chung has been a real trouper through the construction process and the inevitable bumps in the road along the way. She has been extremely gracious, often buying the crew coffee, lunch, and end-of-the-day beverages.

It is a measure of our commitment to quality that one of the subcontractors’ foremen on the job, who is new to our homes, commented to me that in his 20 years in the construction business locally, he has never seen a house built with such attention to detail and obvious pride in our work. He said it was the nicest home he’d ever worked on!

We have been finishing up assorted punch-list items this past week. We promised Mrs. Chung that she would be able to move in Monday October 25th, and we met that goal. This is truly a home that everyone in New Energy Works and Pioneer Millworks can be proud of; I know I certainly am.

Great Job All!

Bruce
