We built these doors for a Manhattan restaurant who wanted to completely refurbish a space to create the look of an upscale eatery that had been in the neighborhood since the Harrison administration. Made from antique eastern white pine supplied by our sister company Pioneer Millworks, who sourced it from deconstructed barns, the wood has a century or so of patina due to oxidation. Each door was then hit with four or five layers of paint, with each sucessive layer stripped until we got the effect you see in recycled architectural millworks, where the stripping process hasn’t quite gotten all of the finish out of the nooks & crannies. Finally, because these were going into a commercial application where they’d be touched by a lot of hands, they got a catalysed varnish top coat to stand up to the abuse they’ll see during their service life.
